Maths at Home
We believe that reinforcement and embedding skills is key to raising standards. For this reason, all children have access to ‘Power Jam’ at home, which is designed to expose, embed and challenge children to the curriculum linked to learning. In addition, children in years 2 to 6 are encouraged to build and retain fluency in securing their times tables through ‘Times Tables Rock Stars’ at home in readiness for more complex problem solving.
In the summer term of 2022 we will be delivering a set of 8 Maths Masterclass sessions to support parents in developing their understanding of maths mastery in school. We hope to establish this as an annual event to help our parents work with more confidence at home with their child/ren.
The children are taught in accordance with the National Curriculum; please use the following link to find out more about National Expectations for each year group.

Monitoring progress and understanding
Pupils will be assessed in Maths through ongoing teacher assessment and end of unit/ term assessments. White Rose and Power Maths have end of block and end of term assessments which staff will use to identify gaps in knowledge and informing future planning and we will also use PUMA assessments at the end of each term to gain an overview of pupils’ knowledge and any gaps we need to address. Information from these assessments will form part of a termly assessment for each child and information will be shared with parents at regular points during the school year. Please see Assessment and Marking policy for more information.
What if my child needs a confidence boost, or wants to be challenged further?
Power Maths is based on a ‘small-steps’ approach, sometimes called a mastery approach. This means that the concepts are broken down so that your child can master one idea without feeling over-whelmed. There are a range of fluency, reasoning and problem-solving questions in each lesson that are designed to support the different needs and confidence levels within a class, while at the same time fostering a spirit of working and learning together. Each lesson includes a challenge question for those children who can delve deeper into a concept.
Please let us know how your children engage with Power Maths.
